Working alone on renovations and other woodworking projects can prove troublesome when an extra set of hands is needed to prop or lever pieces of lumber into position. Enter THE LIGHTNING CLAMP® (model 46101), a unique multipurpose tool that makes standard pipe and gluing clamps a thing of the past.A multifunction clamping, holding, and spreading device, The Lightning Clamp® uses threaded rod as a quick and more convenient method of extending clamping distance for those longer jobs.

Older pipe clamps utilize heavy and cumbersome 1” steel pipe and, as a result, are unwieldy, frustrating to use, and prone to “vibrating” off the clamped work. These older products position their length adjusting and clamping-up mechanisms at opposite ends of the pipe, where as The Lightning Clamp incorporates adjusting and tightening at the same end, device, making it quicker and more efficient for a one-man operation. The Lightning Clamp® allows for jobs of any distance by simply coupling several lengths of all-thread rod together or by using a longer length of rod. Most hardware stores sell all-thread rod in 3 and 6 foot lengths and it is a much cheaper material and lighter to handle and transport than steel pipe.

“It is novel and unique, and allows quick clamping of work situations where no one would have considered using a clamp previously,” notes product designer and full time builder/ carpenter Peter Billings. But The Lightning Clamp® is much more than a high-tech pipe clamp. In typical construction situations, the product acts as “another pair of hands” when working alone is the only alternative. It’s quicker to use than any other clamp even on short clamping jobs and obtains high clamping pressures quickly and effortlessly. It also doubles as a spreading (reverse clamping) device; and can be used as a “bench dog,” while a pair of Lightning Clamps® will transform into the most flexible bench-side vice available. This versatility makes The Lightning Clamp® perfect for use in construction or renovation sites, for wooden decking projects, home workshops, commercial woodworking shops, and even commercial wooden-framed boat building centers.

The Lightning Clamp® is a heavy-duty, all-steel product used with the commonly available ½” UNC/13 pitch threaded rod. It comes in safety yellow and carries a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Long Distance Clamping
A unique feature of The Lightning Clamp is its ability to clamp or pull together work plains which can be a considerable distance apart, say up to 10 meters. The clamp is locked on to a threaded rod at any point, which acts as a shaft between the two ends of the clamp. The clamping distance can be extended to any required length by joining several lengths of rod with a coupling nut. One man can then pull into position a stay or bearer, even when there is no close parallel anchor point for the other end of the clamp. Tradesmen will generally need to carry only one clamp plus a few "extender lengths" of threaded rod, to cover all longer distance clamping situations

The Lightning Clamp allows a single tradesman to work alone and accomplish jobs where he would normally need a colleague to hold, brace, lever or prop things into position while fixing.
